Establishing first tourist taxi fleet in the city

The first tourist taxi fleet in Kaohsiung City was created and began operation in February 2013. A total of 122 taxi drivers from 12 taxi fleets were certified by the Bureau. A trial run of the taxi fleets had been launched for six months with good results. The tourist taxi fares were announced on July 9, 2013; the maximum fare is NT$ 2,400 for 4 hours, and NT$ 500 will be charged for every extra hour after 4 hours to protect consumers’ rights.

In response to the establishment of tourist taxi fleets, the Bureau set up the first 3 tourist tax ranks along Wunfu Road by the THSR station.

In coordination with the “Guidelines on Subsidizing Purchase of Accessible Taxis under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ (MOTC) Project of Enhancing Highway Public Transportation” announced by the MOTC on December 6, 2012, the city purchased 20 accessible taxis with funding approved by the MOTC on February 6, 2013. Contracts were signed in May with fleets being awarded tenders. The first batch of 10 taxis officially began operation on August 27, 2013. It is expected that all 20 taxis will be operating by the end of November. Moreover, the city applied to the MOTC for a subsidy to purchase the second-stage 20 accessible taxis, which had been approved by the MOTC on August 19.

Implementing joint inspection

To stop taxi drivers providing services at KMRT Nangangshan Station and Gangshan Train Station from violating rules, the Bureau has conducted joint inspection and promotion with the Gangshan Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department to clamp down on their behaviors of not charging fares according to the taximeter, so as to ensure travelers’ rights of taking a taxi.
