Ersheng Public Parking Lot is now completed and open to the public!! A great relief to the tight parking capacity in areas surrounding Ersheng Road!

[Kaohsiung News] In order to alleviate the undersupply of parking spaces in areas surrounding Ersheng Road, Kaohsiung City Government took the initiative to work with the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) to jointly develop a parking lot on a piece of land located at TRA’s ex-Kaohsiung Depot. The construction is now completed. Mayor Chen Chi-Mai indicated that for 30 years, a parking lot has been greatly needed in this area. With the devotion of the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government and the building contractor, an open parking lot is finally ready to be taken advantage of. With 120 spaces available for small automobiles, this parking lot is adjacent to C36 station of the light rail along Ersheng Road, greatly satisfying the parking demands while driving the development of local public transportation.

Mayor Chen continued that the Transportation Bureau was specifically requested to complete the construction of Ersheng Public Parking Lot within two months, as the early opening of the parking lot was greatly expected. With the support of TRA and the local popular views, the 120-space parking lot is now completed and open to the public. The location of Ersheng Public Parking Lot was once a part of TRA’s ex-Kaohsiung Depot. In order to preserve the existing railway tracks, the building contractor was specially requested to preserve all the rails and switches onsite, thus making Ersheng Public Parking Lot unique and characteristic with railway styles.

Mayor Chen further said that, in cooperation with TRA, Ersheng Public Parking Lot construction project is a great success, which provides short-term, temporary parking spaces to solve the local parking issues before the development of the TRA’s ex-Deport site for future urban planning.

Mayor Chen finally concluded that the Kaohsiung City Government is now actively undertaking the "rezoning of the industrial zone" of an approximately 32-hectare lot around the current Ersheng Public Parking Lot to reposition the site with new roles and new functions in the midst of the future urban development. In the future, this rezoned area will echo Weiwuying and be connected to the commercial area of Jianjun Station, together making a golden triangle to drive the development of the whole area. The midtown of Fengshan is to become a center for international design, culture, art, and economy.

Ms. Chang Shu-Chuan, Director of the Transportation Bureau, also pointed out that Ersheng Public Parking Lot not only comes with 120 spaces for small automobiles, but also retains the existing rail tracks while expanding green coverage on the space surface. It is expected that the launch of Ersheng Public Parking Lot is to benefit the development of the local livelihood, transportation, industry, tourism, and public transit, thus creating a win-win situation for all. In the future, Kaohsiung City Government is to continue to build parking lots in proper locations to alleviate the undersupply of parking spaces in the City, so as to improve the overall parking situation. It is hoped that the transportation construction of Kaohsiung City is getting improved as we move forward.
