Mayor Chen Chi-Mai on municipal administrative meeting praised the donors for donating rehabuses used for providing high-quality services

【Kaohsiung News】On a municipal administrative meeting, Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-Mai openly recognized charitable donors for their contribution of rehabuses in 2020. Mayor Chen praised those kindhearted donors, who are committed to social welfare with the spirit of “taking from society and giving back to society.” The Rehabus will join the accessible transportation fleet to benefit the physically challenged in Greater Kaohsiung.
Mayor Chen expressed his appreciation to enterprises and individuals who showed their kindness by donating rehabuses. In 2020, a total of 160 Rehabus went into operation. Last year, the city government received seven of them from the donors. The total number of trips provided by the Rehabus reached 316,226 last year. As many as 580,951 passengers used the services to meet their needs of medical attention, schooling, visiting friends, and leisure activities.
Mayor Chen expected that more people from all sectors of the society would be inspired to donate Rehabus to care for the needs of physically challenged people.
Among the donors in 2020, there were kindhearted people who have been donating for consecutive five years. Some of them donate rehabuses to express gratitude to their parents for raising them up, and some others who had benefited from the services before want to promote the good deeds and a virtuous circle to the society through rehabus donation.
What worth mentioning was the 91-year-old Mr. Liou Shuei-cheng. With his wife used to benefit from the services, Mr. Liou is convinced that the Rehabuses are helpful to many people with physical disabilities. Hence, with the belief that one must repay a great deal for even a little bit of kindness received, Mr. Liou and his wife, Mrs. Liou Li Sing-yu, donated three rehabuses in 2015, 2018, and 2020, respectively.
The Transportation Bureau said that in order to diversify the transportation services provided to people with physical disabilities, in addition to Rehabus donated by enterprises and individuals, the city government will continue to apply for subsidies from the central government to purchase wheelchair taxis and encourage transportation providers to purchase accessible buses in the hope of creating a friendly and accessible environment in Greater Kaohsiung.
