Transportation Bureau provides free & safe transportation service, recognized by all during pandemic

[Kaohsiung News] In conjunction with the Central Epidemic Command Center’s providing Kaohsiung with vaccines for orderly vaccination, the Kaohsiung City Government is considerately providing free Rehabuses and taxis services for the elderly and the pregnant. From June 15 to 25, totally more than 10,000 trips of free shuttle services are widely praised and affirmed by the public.
Since May 19 when the Central Epidemic Command Center announced the implementation of Level-III epidemic alert, the Kaohsiung City Government has worked on various responsive measures, including considerate services for the elderly, promotion of the vaccination, acceleration of the vaccination implementation, and mitigation of the challenges of income drop faced by taxi drivers during the pandemic. Meanwhile, the Kaohsiung City Government has gathered a total of 10 enthusiastic taxi fleets and arranged Rehabuses for door-to-door services to pick up and drop off the elderly and the pregnant.
The free shuttle services provided by the Kaohsiung City Government this time include the elderly of 75 years of age or above. According to statistics, more than 3,000 vehicles have been dispatched from June 15 to 25, totaling more than 10,000 trips. In addition, the pregnant are included into the free shuttle services as of June 23 on an appointment-by-reservation basis. Many elderly people overwhelmingly express their gratitude for the free taxi service provided by the city government. Especially for those elderly living alone, someone from the district office or the neighborhood leader would even accompany them to ride on the taxi, so that the elderly living alone can have peace of mind, going out for vaccinations.
The Transportation Bureau requires the taxi service drivers to fully implement epidemic prevention measures, including wearing masks when passengers are in the vehicle, sanitizing the interior of the vehicle (especially door handles, seats, and the back of the seats that are often touched by passengers) at the end of every service trip, slightly opening the windows at the corner to get the ventilation going, and keeping the riding safety during the epidemic.
The Transportation Bureau indicated that in response to the entry and quarantine requirements for fishery workers working on distant-water fishing boats returning to Kaohsiung, currently 151 epidemic-prevention buses are deployed for connection services. Drivers of these buses have received epidemic prevention and health education & training by the Department of Health before being put on duty, and the seats on the bus are properly separated. As for the fishery workers, their luggage has to be sanitized, and they have to step on the sanitizing mat with bleach solutions to disinfect their soles before getting on the bus from the back door. Before and after every bus trip, a thorough sanitization is conducted on seats, handles, floor, and window glass on the bus to ensure the safety of the workers.
Finally, the Transportation Bureau would like to remind once again that for those living-alone elderly over 75 years of age, physically or mentally challenged, or with a major injury or illness, if they plan to be vaccinated at vaccination stations, please contact the district office; whereas for the pregnant, if a reservation has been made with a clinic, they can also contact the district office. By all means, both the taxi fleets and Rehabuses are to do their very best to serve residents in Kaohsiung.
