DRTS Taxi Service for Medical Attention in Namasia District and Taoyuan District Now Available

[Kaohsiung News] “Starting from October, the DRTS taxi service is available in Namasia District and Taoyuan District for direct transport to the hospital.” According to Mayor Chen Chi-Mai, starting from the 29th, 2 DRTS (demand-responsive transit system) taxi routes in Namasia District and Taoyuan District are available for registration, providing convenient transportation services for local residents for referrals.
Kaohsiung City Government promotes the DRTS taxi service and provides services to residents in remote areas, which has yielded good results and received positive feedback. Around the Mid-Autumn Festival, 3 routes in Lujhu District and Alian District have been added. Starting from the 29th, 2 routes in Namasia District and Taoyuan District have been added, as well. At the launching ceremony, Chen Chi-Mai showed his regards for local residents and served as a service personnel to kindly greet them to have a seat. The scene was heart-warming. Chen Chi-Mai says Kaohsiung is a place with a vast territory and to safeguard the rights and interests of residents in remote areas to get medical attention, purchase, go to work or school, he is dedicated to meeting the needs of the people and will continue to combine local creation and promote equal rights of transportation.
Chen Chi-Mai says the DRTS taxi is a creative and flexible transportation service that combines the advantages of taxis and buses. It can provide last mile service in the neighborhood according to road conditions and transportation needs to meet the transportation needs of the elderly, expand the scope of public transportation services, make up service gaps and plan appropriate transportation services according to actual transportation needs. So far, there are 58 service routes, covering 33 administrative districts, which ranks first in the country. It is also announced that by the end of this year, the DRTS taxi service for direct transport to the hospital in Maolin District will also be available.
Director Chang Shu-Chuan of the Transportation Bureau says new routes of the DRTS taxi service in Namasia District and Taoyuan District are added and that the fee charged is the same as for bus transportation. Citizens who use the service with an electronic ticket will only have to pay NT$ 60 at most got themselves for each ride. The government can even save about 30% of subsidies compared to bus transportation. In addition, by providing a better transportation service, residents in the indigenous districts can get assistance from public health centers to register the DRTS taxi service for referrals to get medical attention more conveniently. Moreover, the Bureau has received a subsidy from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications this year and it is planned to launch a DRTS taxi service upgrade program to provide the service that has no fixed route, no fixed schedule, and with more flexibility, giving last mile service for residents in remote areas.
A reminder from the Transportation Bureau - The end of the year is near. According to the statistics, the traffic accident rate is higher at the year-end season. Kaohsiung has cooperated with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to promote the “National Traffic Safety Month in October” campaign, urging drivers to slow down, look, and stop at intersections and for pedestrians to stop, look and listen. Let’s set an example and create a new culture of road traffic safety.
