A Limited-time Offer on Kaohsiung City Government’s MeNGo Monthly Transportation Pass

Kaohsiung NewsSince Kaohsiung City launched the discount scheme for MeNGo monthly pass on March 29, 2020, the number of passes purchased has grown by 10%. The offer gives a discount of up to 50% on ticket prices, which means passengers could enjoy unlimited rides on city buses at a minimum of less than NT$7 per day.
City Mayor Han Kuo-Yu stated that a limited-time special offer was provided to ease the burden on users of public transportation. Citizens who purchase MeNGo passes from March 29 to September 30, 2020 will get NT$200 or NT$249 off. The number of MeNGo monthly passes purchased has grown by 10% since the launch of the discount scheme at the end of March. These large discounts on transportation monthly passes during the epidemic prevention period is indeed noticeable for citizens!
There are four types of MeNGo monthly passes: “Unlimited Rides” (on MRT, LRT, and buses), “Unlimited Rides on Buses,” “Unlimited Rides on Buses and Intercity Buses,” and “Unlimited Rides on Ferries.” Commuters who purchase the “Unlimited Rides” pass can enjoy unlimited rides on city buses, MRT, and LRT plus 4 rides on ferries at an average of less than NT$45 per day; additionally, 600 MeNGo Points are rewarded per purchase, which can be redeemed to gain discounts on taxis, shared electric scooters, and parking bills. This special offer is a real bargain for sure.
The Director-General of the Transportation Bureau Cheng Yung-Hsiang noted that public transportation businesses, including MRT, buses, ferries, and LRT in Kaohsiung, are making every effort to increase sanitizing and cleaning of vehicles and stations so as to assure citizens of safe rides. The MeNGo monthly pass discount not only reduces citizens’ transportation costs, but also helps reduce environmental pollution and traffic accidents caused by cars and scooters.
“I can use the MeNGo card on any public transportation vehicles. Now I save NT$200, which means I can buy several cups of coffee from convenience stores. I also get points for discounts on taxi rides and WeMo rentals. It really is a great deal,” said Ms. Chen, a working professional. “The ‘Unlimited Rides on Busses’ pass is a real bargain. It’s only NT$199, which averages less than NT$7 per day,” a student whose surname is Wang said.
