“2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Kaohsiung” An upgrade of smart epidemic prevention — Transportation guidelines during the Lunar New Year

[Kaohsiung News] As the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held at both Love River Bay and Weiwuying in Kaohsiung starting from February 1, the Transportation Bureau announced the first batch of traffic guidelines on the 19th. It is suggested that visitors go there by Kaohsiung MRT as no parking lots will be provided around the sites. In addition, visitors can purchase the “Transportation Discount Code” for only NT$ 99 after completing the registration of their personal “Lantern Festival Code” on the “Taiwan Lantern Festival Epidemic Prevention Platform.” With the Code, visitors can travel around Kaohsiung by public transportation at no extra charge within 24 hours, which is smart for epidemic prevention and can avoid the problem of traffic congestion.
On the 19th, the Transportation Bureau of the city government announced that the traffic control measures will take effect in the Lantern Zones during the Lunar New Year from February 1 to 6. The surrounding roads of the control areas will be designated as pedestrian zones from 17:00 to 24:00 every day. The control areas of Weiwuying include Sanduo 1st Rd. (the east side road of the freeway to Jianjun Rd.), the slow lane of Guotai Rd. Sec.2 (Sanduo 1st Rd. to Nanjing Rd.) and the southbound lane of Nanjing Rd. (Guotai Rd. Sec.2 to Zihci Rd.). Traffic in the region south of Gongyuan Rd. at Love River Bay will be controlled. Short-term parking will be prohibited on roads around the sites and the police will strongly crack down on illegally parked vehicles.
During the Lantern Festival, no parking lots will be available at Weiwuying and Love River Bay. The Transportation Bureau provides 10 parking lots near the MRT and LRT stations during the Lantern Festival, including the newly-built large parking lots near MRT Daliao, Shihjia and Cingpu Stations and LRT Dream Mall Station, with a total of 11,000 parking spaces. It takes only a five-minute walk from each parking lot to the MRT or LRT for transfer to the event sites. In addition, the MRT and LRT will also reduce the interval of their services to increase transport capacity.
Furthermore, to make it easier for visitors from other counties and cities to enjoy the Lantern Festival, Taiwan Railways will run extra trips during the Lantern Festival to increase transport capacity and will also make extra stops at the Museum of Fine Arts Station (to Love River Bay Lantern Zone) and Zhengyi Station (to Weiwuying Lantern Zone) in coordination with fast local trains.
A reminder from the Transportation Bureau. The “Transportation Discount Code is the best deal for the Lantern Festival.” The very first “Taiwan Lantern Festival Epidemic Prevention Platform” brings together the three major services of transportation, events and purchasing, as well as integrating with real-name registration. After completing the registration of your personal “Lantern Festival Code,” you can purchase the “Transportation Discount Code” for just NT$99. This allows you to take an unlimited number of journeys on the Kaohsiung Metro (MRT), the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Kaohsiung City Bus services, as well as two free trips on the city’s ferries and free use of the YouBike shared-bicycle system for up to 30 minutes each time. With the Code, you can feel at ease with epidemic prevention, get traffic information about the Lantern Festival, public transportation and parking lots and travel around Kaohsiung safely and easily. It is also suggested that citizens who usually drive through the surrounding roads of the Lantern Zones to use other ways during the Lantern Festival to avoid traffic congestion.
