A Public Off-street Parking Lot Is Planned to be Built in Gangshanzih Park, Cianjhen District, to Solve the Problem of Insufficient Parking Spaces in the Neighborhood

【Kaohsiung News】To solve the problem of insufficient parking spaces around Gangshanzih in Cianjhen District, Kaohsiung City Government has planned to build a public off-street parking lot in Gangshanzih Park. Deputy Mayor Charles Lin said that the parking lot would be located on the border of Cianjhen and Fengshan Districts and adjacent to the planned route of MRT Yellow Line. He expected that the parking lot would facilitate local development and cater to the need for parking of MRT passengers.

Accompanied by Director-General Chang Shu-chuan of the Transportation Bureau, Deputy Mayor Lin went to Gangshanzih Park to inspect the planning of the parking lot on March 9. According to Deputy Mayor Lin, it has been difficult to designate on-street parking spaces due to the narrow street space in old communities in Gangshanzih, Cianjhen District. To improve road safety and solve the problem of insufficient parking spaces in the neighborhood, the city government has planned to use part of the space in Gangshanzih Park to build a parking lot. The project has received the recognition and promotion of local representatives and chiefs of villages.

As a permanent solution, the representatives participating in the inspection expected that the city government would apply for central government subsidies to construct an underground parking garage. Deputy Mayor Lin promised that for the next three years, the city government team would work toward the goal of building an underground parking garage with central government subsidies.

Deputy Mayor Lin analyzed that with its proximity to the planned route of MRT Yellow Line, the parking lot would not only solve local parking problems but also cater to the need for parking of MRT passengers.

According to the Transportation Bureau, the parking lot is scheduled to be completed by this September. It will then provide about 100 parking spaces for small vehicles while keeping the existing park in use. When the new MRT line is completed, it will also solve the parking problem for MRT passengers.
