A New Electronic Billboard at Intersection of LRT Da Nan Loop Shows “No Left or Right Turn” When the Green Light for Going Straight Is On to Remind the Public to Follow Traffic Sig

【Kaohsiung News】"Drivers beware!" Drivers passing through the Da Nan Loop of the Kaohsiung Light Rail Transit (LRT) must drive according to traffic signals. The Transportation Bureau set up a new electronic billboard at the intersection of Kaisyuan 2nd Road and Sihwei 1st Road. When the green light for going straight is on, the electronic billboard will show "No left or right turn" accordingly to remind road users not to make a turn to avoid collision with LRT trains.
Since LRT Da Nan Loop was open for operation on January 12 this year, there have been five collisions between vehicles and LRT trains along the loop due to road users' failure to follow traffic signals. In light of this, in addition to strengthening the advocacy that road users must drive according to traffic signals, the Transportation Bureau set up a new electronic billboard, which shows "No left or right turn" whenever the green light for going straight at an intersection is on, thereby reminding road users to go straight and not turn left or right.
According to the Transportation Bureau, most of the accidents happened due to the fact that the road users were not aware of the green arrow signals for going straight, so that they turned left or right and therefore collided with LRT trains.
In light of this, the Transportation Bureau set up a new electronic billboard at the intersection of Kaisyuan 2nd Road and Sihwei 1st Road. When the green light for going straight is on, the electronic billboard reminds road users not to turn left or right to avoid collisions caused by road users who violate the rule by making a turn. More electronic billboards will be installed at intersections along Kaisyuan 2nd Road.
The Transportation Bureau urges road users to follow traffic control measures. It will also apply 5G, AIOT, and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) technologies to build an intelligent rail transportation system, so as to improve traffic safety at intersections along LRT.
