“Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” An upgrade of the DRTS taxi service

[Kaohsiung News] An upgrade of the DRTS taxi service in Kaohsiung! To improve the public transportation service in remote areas and fulfill equal rights to transportation, the “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!-DRTS 2.0” program has been initiated on the 7th, upgrading the transportation service in remote areas once again, says Mayor Chen Chi-mai.

The Kaohsiung City Government promotes the DRTS taxi service and provides services to residents in remote areas, which has yielded good results and received positive feedback from the public. On the 7th, the “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” program has been initiated, which is an upgrade of the transportation service in remote areas. The program provides residents in the Meinong District with the DRTS taxi service that has no fixed route, no fixed schedule and with more flexibility, giving a ride for the residents back to their home.

Chen Chi-mai says the “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” program first introduces smart transportation services in Meinong District by bringing together a variety of vehicles and integrating with big data technology to optimize the existing service routes and schedules based on real-time situation through demand-responsive services to address the inadequate public transportation service issue in some areas. In addition, by integrating a variety of vehicles with services provided in remote areas and introducing a registration platform, a more flexible public transportation service is created to meet basic transportation demand of residents in the Meinong District for commuting, going to schools or hospitals!

Hsu Cheng-chang, the director of the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of the Transportation and Communications, says the Directorate General of Highways and Kaohsiung City Government have been actively promoting the DRTS taxi service in remote areas in Kaohsiung since 2019. As of December 2021, there are 24 routes in Cishan, Meinong, Liouguei, Jiasian, Shanlin, Neimen, Maolin, Taoyuan and Namasia District and 33 administrative districts are covered with a total of 58 routes under the DRTS taxi service, which is the top in the country. The service has received positive feedback from the local people. The Directorate General of Highways has given its full support to improve the flexibility of transportation and the last mile service for residents in remote areas.

Chang Shu-chuan, the director of the Transportation Bureau, says the “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” program combines a variety of vehicles, transportation service centers and a local demand notification network that connects to district offices, household registration offices, offices in various neighborhoods, hospitals, clinics, schools, long-term care stations, community care centers and other units. The scope of services include transportation for the purposes of going to schools or hospitals, rehabilitation, long-term care, commodity purchasing, business and others. If you’d like to know more information on the service or use the transportation service, please inquire at the local demand notification centers from 8:30 to 18:00 on weekdays or call the free service hotline at 0800-660-696 and use Line to contact and make an appointment.

According to the Transportation Bureau, a one-day trial run was conducted on November 17 last year by providing transportation services to older adults in Guanglin, Fu’an, and Guangde Long-term Care stations and students in Meinong Elementary School and ChiMei Vocational High School for the purposes of going to schools, going out and back to long-term care centers, and going to market for purchasing. People participated in the trial run eagerly and said that they look forward to the official launch of the transportation service in Meinong District, which will spare them from a lot of trouble when going out. Many people have already made an appointment after knowing that the transportation service will soon be available.

Starting from today, the “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” program is officially launched. Registration in advance is required for the transportation service, which must be completed by 18:00 on the day before the day using the service at the latest. Once confirming the appointment, transportation service centers will then make the arrangement. The transportation service will be arranged with a minimum of 2 passengers and the appointment results will be given. The sticker “Sharing Happiness, Meinong GO!” will be put on the vehicles for passengers to identify. Welcome to make good use of the transportation service!
