Jhan Bo Viaduct Will Be Closed for Demolition from the Midnight on Feb. 27. Alternative Routes Are Suggested.

【Kaohsiung News】The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government has announced that the access ramps to Jhong Bo Viaduct, which sits next to the Kaohsiung Main Station, will be closed for demolition from 00:00 a.m. on February 27, 2021. After the demolition, Jhansi Road is scheduled to be open to traffic on 06:00 a.m. on March 8 to serve the function of the viaduct. During the nine days of work, the city government will set up an emergency response center to oversee the demolition.
According to the Southern Region Engineering Office (the Southern Office) of the Railway Bureau, to shorten the duration of demolition, minimize the impact on neighboring areas, and maintain passage through Jhong Bo corridor, the removal of the access ramps to Jhong Bo Viaduct is expected to take nine days from February 27 to March 7. The removal of the remaining sections of the viaduct within the work site of the main station will be completed in the following two months.
Given that the access ramps pass over Jiouru Road and Jianguo Road, respectively, the sections of Jiouru (between Dalian Street and Haerbin Street) and of Jianguo (between Linsen Road and Tongai Street) will be subject to traffic control and closure for the sake of safety. Zihli and Zihyou Roads; Fusing, Cisian, and Shihcyuan Roads; and Minzu and Jhonghua Roads have been designated as alternative routes around the main station.
The Transportation Bureau has said that there will be temporary stops on Cisian Road (between Nanhua and Jhongsiao Roads) for city buses and highway coaches approaching traffic control zones around the main station. There will also be free shuttle buses every six minutes from 06:00 to 24:00 to take passengers to the main station. Access to and exit from the main station will not be affected as the city government has planned exclusive lanes along Nanhua and Songjiang Roads.
Still, the Transportation Bureau encourages passengers to take the train via the nearby Minzu or Sankuaicuo Stations. Passengers arriving at the Kaohsiung Main Station are also encouraged to take MRT Red Line to all stations across the city to avoid traffic jams.
Deputy Mayor Charles Lin said that in compliance with the underground railway project, Jhong Bo Viaduct is about to be decommissioned after 17 years of service. Given its importance of connecting major north-south roads across downtown Kaohsiung, the city government and the Southern Office will set up an emergency response center to oversee the demolition. The city government has strengthened its efforts to advocate relevant traffic measures and set up diversion signs, urging the public to plan their commutes to and from work or school in advance. The completion of the demolition is expected to advance the vision of the underground railway project.
