Bus-Style Flexible Taxis Are the Pride of the Country, Providing the People of Kaohsiung with High-Quality Shuttle Services

The main goal of the “Flexible Taxi Transportation Service Project” is to increase the usage of public transportation in remote areas. The project provides four free taxi routes in total. The Dahu route started operations on April 27 and the Yongan route started on May 25. The Dashu route will start operating on July 1 and the Daliao route is planned for a mid-August launch.

Chen,Ching-Fu, the Director-General of the Transportation Bureau, stated that not only can flexible transportation service vehicles drive existing routes and take on/drop off passengers at various stops along the routes, but they can also drop passengers off at locations between stops according to their needs. In addition, two channels for riding the taxis are provided. People can wait at bus stops along planned routes to take the taxis at the scheduled times or they can make reservations ahead of time to get on a taxi at a specific time and bus stop.

The bidding for this project was won by Jhonghua Taxi Services, which has received high marks in taxi service evaluations for many years. Service taxis used for this project all have identification emblems attached to them so people can recognize them. The Dashu route is planned to depart from E-Da Theme Park, connect to the 8501 bus route, and go to Jioucyutang Train Station. The flexible taxis will depart from E-Da Theme Park six times a day: 8:35 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:20 AM, 1:35 PM, 2:55 PM, and 4:15 PM. They will reach Jioucyutang Train Station six times a day: 9:15 AM, 10:40 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:15 PM, 3:35 PM, and 4:55 PM. Information on the flexible taxis can be obtained from Jhonghwa Taxi Services (tel.: 07-725-8777; 713-1000), the Dashu District Office, the Offices of Village Chiefs, bus stops along the Dashu route, E-Da Theme Park, and the website of the Transportation Bureau. Additionally, if passengers encounter drivers with poor attitudes when taking flexible taxis, they can take down the license plate number as well as the time and location of the incident and file a complaint with the Transportation Bureau (complaint hotline: 07-7228465). If the complaint proves to be true after investigation, the competent authority will take action in accordance with the Highway Act.
