Kaohsiung City Rehabilitation Bus Collaborates with KMUH to Be the First in Taiwan to Provide Fast Medical Admission Service

Kaohsiung News“Priority service!” Kaohsiung City Rehabilitation Bus has been collaborating with the Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital (KMUH) on the “Fast Medical Admission Service.” Through an interface between the booking system of rehabus and the outpatient system of KMUH, the two systems allow medical staffs to arrange medical services in advance for patients who take rehabus to the hospital. For patients, it means shorter waiting time and more efficient medical and transport service.
The press conference on the priority service jointly launched by Kaohsiung City Rehabilitation Bus and KMUH took place at the Building Chi-Chuan in KMUH on May 22. The Director-general of the Transportation Bureau Cheng Yung-Hsiang, the Superintendent of KMUH Hou Ming-Feng, and the General Manager of Kaohsiung Bus (Kbus) Jhong Sin-Bei conducted the service launch ceremony.
According to statistics, about 80% of passengers taking rehabilitation bus have severe disability identification, and 60% of them age 60 and above. The Transportation Bureau and KMUH noticed that it takes rehabilitation bus users considerably longer time for transportation and hospital visits due to physical challenges; therefore, they collaborated to launchFast Medical Admission Service”, which shorten wait time to admission significantly. Meanwhile, service frequencies of rehabilitation buses can also be increased.
Cheng Yung-Hsiang pointed out that the new service will not influence how citizens used to book rehabilitation buses. As one successfully makes a booking online or by phone, the information will be transmitted to KMUH. When patients check in with their National Health Insurance (NHI) card on a visit to the hospital, the outpatient system will show relevant booking information for rehabilitation bus, allowing medical staffs to arrange medical services in proper time so that patients will not miss their return trip due to long admission time. The collaboration between the rehabus and KMUH not only reduces patients and their family’s anxiety, but relieves stress put on medical staffs. It also increases the service frequency of rehabilitation buses; hence, more citizens in need might benefit from the service.
Hou Ming-Feng explained that the care, innovation, and fulfillment of social responsibility have always been the core values and operating philosophy of KMUH. Thanks to the interface between the two systems, KMUH is able to know patients’ arrival and departure schedule in advance. The medical staffs can prioritize admission and help reduce wait time of the vulnerable for their convenience. KMUH will keep on working with the Transportation Bureau to evaluate the feasibility of expanding the service to more health care facilities.
Jhong Sin-Bei stated that Kbus will continue coworking with KMUH in offering innovative services, in hopes of providing the public with a more convenient medical and admission service. The 1st anniversary of the day Kbus undertook the operation of “Kaohsiung City Accessible Rehabilitation Bus” is at hand. Kbus will go on improving service quality, efficiency, and developing innovative services which ensure a better bus-riding experience and rights for the disabled and the vulnerable.
