Operators ranked as excellent in the Kaohsiung City bus service quality evaluation, best performing routes, and exemplary bus drivers are recognized in an effort to improve overall

The results of the 2019 Kaohsiung City Bus Service Quality Evaluation and Exemplary Bus Driver Selection have been released. During the administrative meeting held on March 31, Mayor Han Kuo-Yu publicly commended and presented awards to the selected bus transport operators and drivers in recognition of their dedication and efforts to providing citizens with friendly and safe public transport services.

The 2019 Bus Service Quality Evaluation results are as follows: four bus transport operators, namely Ubus, G-Bus, EDA BUS, and Kbus, are ranked as “excellent.” The No. 83 route operated by Ubus, No. 218 route operated by G-Bus, No. 8505 operated by EDA BUS, No. 98 route operated by Kbus, and No. 33 route operated by Han-Cheng Bus Traffic are ranked as the best performing routes. 17 bus drivers have been selected as exemplary bus drivers, including Liou An-Jie, Lin Jhong-Jun, Liou Wun-Liang, and Ciou Guo-Fong from G-Bus; Hong Fu-Bin, Hong Yi-Ben, Chu En-Tong, and Palalavi Haisul from Kbus; Pan Huang-Ren and He Siang- Siang from Ubus; Jhong Jheng-Fong and Jhu Chang-Jhong from Han-Cheng; Jheng Jhen-Sheng, Yang Shih-Guo, and Wu Jie-Ru from South Taiwan Bus; Fang Guo-Jhong from Southeast Bus; and Zu Rong-Jheng from EDA BUS.

Mayor Han stated that bus service quality evaluations and exemplary bus driver selections are conducted annually to improve the quality of bus services, enhance the sense of honor among bus drivers, and provide barrier-free and user-friendly public transport facilities. A fair third-party accreditation body has been appointed to conduct service quality evaluations. In addition, passengers are invited via real-time bus apps to vote for bus drivers who offer excellent services. These measures aim to increase interactions between passengers and bus drivers and provide positive feedback to enthusiastic bus drivers.

According to Director-General of the Transportation Bureau Cheng Yung-Hsiang, the Bureau has been striving to build an optimal public transport network and highlight the “soft power” of the bus services. The criteria for the bus service quality evaluations include bus station facilities and services, transportation equipment and safety, quality of passenger services and driver management, and corporate operation and management. Experts and scholars have been employed to provide guidance and conduct on-site assessments and questionnaire surveys on bus ride experience. In the 2019 evaluation, Ubus and three other bus transport operators were ranked as “excellent” and five bus routes, including the No. 83 route, were chosen as the best performing routes. 17 best performing bus drivers were selected based on the number of votes cast by passengers, the feedback provided by passengers through the 1999 Hotline, and the bus driver evaluations conducted by bus transport operators.

The Transportation Bureau added that they received a lot of feedback from passengers during the selection. “My leg injury prevented me from moving freely, and I worried about causing trouble for others while riding the bus,” said Ms. Huang, a regular user of the No. 168 Bus. “But the bus driver helped me get on and off the bus with lots of patience and thanked other bus passengers for their cooperation. The feeling of being moved remains with me to this day.” Mr. Lee, a passenger of the No. 90 Bus, said: “A scooter slipped in front of the bus on a rainy day. The bus driver was kind enough to get off the bus and offer his assistance without being asked. He also helped divert the traffic to prevent another accident. This made me come to a deep realization that buses are not just a mode of transportation but something that could warm your heart.” The Bureau will continue to organize similar activities to keep up such heartwarming and positive interactions and further encourage bus drivers to improve their services.
